Abstract

This study examines the financial performance, valuation, and stock market characteristics of eight selected Philippine transportation companies: Asian Terminals, Cebu Air, International Container Terminal Services, Lorenzo Shipping, MacroAsia, PAL Holdings, Globalport 900, and Harbor Star Shipping Services. A descriptive-comparative approach was used to examine secondary financial and market information presented through Investagrams, TradingView, and Pesobility. The analysis covered profitability, liquidity, financial leverage, valuation multiples, dividends, historical stock returns, and technical indicators. The reported findings reveal substantial differences across the companies and demonstrate that financial fundamentals and stock-price performance do not consistently move together. Asian Terminals exhibited positive profitability and comparatively favorable liquidity and leverage, while International Container Terminal Services combined strong reported earnings and historical returns with elevated valuation and leverage. MacroAsia maintained positive earnings despite negative returns across the reported investment horizons. Lorenzo Shipping and Harbor Star recorded positive longer-horizon returns alongside liquidity and leverage concerns, whereas Cebu Air and PAL Holdings exhibited earnings weaknesses and financial pressures. Globalport 900’s older financial observations limited its comparability with the other companies. Differences in observation dates, reporting periods, and platform measures constrain direct rankings and sector-wide generalization. The study underscores the importance of evaluating financial condition, valuation, and market behavior jointly, while distinguishing historical price appreciation from sustainable operating performance and future investment outcomes.
