This editorial introduces Volume 1, Number 2 (October 2026) of Asian Financial Economics and Policy, which brings together 17 contributions on financial markets, macroeconomic stability, and institutional development in Asia, with particular emphasis on the Philippines and the wider Southeast Asian region. The issue is organized around three questions: how effectively financial markets reflect the underlying conditions of firms, industries, and national economies; the extent to which Asian economies have developed the capacity to withstand financial, macroeconomic, and geopolitical disruption; and what forms of institutional coordination and public policy are required to convert financial development into sustainable and inclusive progress. Seven sectoral studies of listed Philippine companies show that profitability, leverage, and valuation indicators must be read within industry-specific contexts. The macroeconomic contributions examine debt overhang, crisis resilience, speculative risk-taking, exchange-rate pass-through, and the relationships among inflation, growth, and household consumption. Further studies assess the transferability of Singapore's development experience, the distinction between financial access and financial well-being in digital assets and consumer credit, and the reassessment of investment risk in energy and healthcare equities. The editorial closes by proposing a research agenda that integrates corporate and macroeconomic analysis, separates access from outcomes in financial inclusion research, attends to institutional heterogeneity across Asian economies, and widens financial-stability analysis to include technological, geopolitical, and infrastructure-related risks.
