Author Guidelines

Author Guidelines (AJEDP)
The Asian Journal of Economic Development and Policy Studies (AJEDP) publishes rigorous, policy-relevant scholarship on economic development and public policy, with emphasis on ASEAN and broader Asian contexts, while welcoming high-quality comparative and global development studies. Manuscripts must demonstrate conceptual clarity, methodological transparency, and explicit implications for development policy, governance, and implementation.

1) Article Types

AJEDP considers the following:

  • Original Research Articles (empirical or theoretical)

  • Policy Evaluation Studies (programs, reforms, interventions, institutional changes)

  • Systematic Reviews / Scoping Reviews (transparent methods and synthesis)

  • Policy Notes (evidence-based, analytically grounded, not purely opinion)

  • Structured Case Studies (country/sector/program) that yield transferable policy lessons

2) Fit and Editorial Screening

All submissions undergo an initial editorial screening for:

  • Alignment with AJEDP scope (development and policy relevance)

  • Scholarly quality and clarity of contribution

  • Basic methodological adequacy and transparency

  • Ethical compliance and integrity (originality, attribution, disclosures)

Manuscripts may be declined at this stage if they are out of scope, lack a clear contribution, or do not meet minimum scholarly standards.

3) Manuscript Preparation and Structure

Authors should organize manuscripts using a clear academic structure (as appropriate to the design):

  • Title

  • Abstract (150–250 words)

  • Keywords (5–8 keywords; optional: JEL codes if relevant)

  • Introduction (problem, context, contribution, policy relevance)

  • Review of Related Literature / Theoretical Framing

  • Methodology / Data and Methods (data sources, variables/measures, identification strategy, models, assumptions, robustness checks where appropriate)

  • Results (tables/figures with clear interpretation)

  • Discussion (meaning of findings, comparison with literature, limitations)

  • Policy Implications / Recommendations (proportionate to evidence)

  • Conclusion

  • References

  • Appendices / Supplementary Materials (optional)

WDI / cross-country dataset papers: Authors must clearly state country coverage, years, variable definitions, transformations (e.g., logs, growth rates), missing-data handling, and robustness checks (where relevant).

4) Formatting and Style

  • Language: English (formal academic style).

  • Referencing style: APA 7th edition (in-text citations and reference list).

  • Tables/Figures: Number sequentially; provide informative titles/captions; cite sources for any reproduced or adapted material.

  • Units/Indicators: Define all indicators, indexes, and abbreviations at first mention.

5) File Requirements for Double-Blind Review

To support double-blind peer review, submissions should include:

  1. Main Manuscript File (Anonymous): No author names, affiliations, acknowledgments, or identifying self-references in a way that reveals identity.

  2. Title Page (Separate File): Full author names, affiliations, emails, ORCID (if available), corresponding author, acknowledgments, funding statement, and competing interest declaration.

6) Research Ethics, Integrity, and Disclosure

Authors must ensure:

  • Originality and proper attribution (no plagiarism; appropriate citation of sources).

  • No simultaneous submission to another journal.

  • Competing Interests disclosure (or the statement “The authors declare no competing interests.”).

  • Funding disclosure and role of funders (if any).

  • Human-participant and sensitive data compliance where applicable (ethics approval/permissions, informed consent, and data privacy protections consistent with applicable standards and regulations).

7) Data Transparency and Reproducibility (Recommended)

AJEDP strongly encourages a brief Data Availability Statement, indicating whether data and code can be shared, and how (repository link, upon request, or restrictions with justification). For public datasets (e.g., WDI), authors should provide sufficient detail to reproduce dataset construction (indicator codes, years, filters, and transformations).

8) Use of AI-Assisted Tools

Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of the manuscript. AI tools must not be listed as authors. Any material use that affects content (e.g., substantive drafting, analysis code generation, or extensive rewriting) should be disclosed appropriately (e.g., Methods or Acknowledgments), consistent with ethical transparency.

9) Submission Checklist (Recommended to follow)

Before submitting, confirm that:

  • The manuscript fits AJEDP’s development and policy scope.

  • The main file is anonymized for double-blind review.

  • References are complete and in APA 7 format (with DOIs where available).

  • Tables/figures are clear, numbered, and properly sourced.

  • Competing interests and funding disclosures are prepared.

  • Ethical approvals/permissions are documented where applicable.
